The always misguided Johnathan Alter is up in arms that the US government would practice such evil things as "propaganda". Lighten up Johnny Boy:
This outsourcing of covert propaganda (everything is outsourced these days) tells us a lot about the two biggest stories around—the venality of Republican Washington and the colossal failure in Iraq—and how they're connected by a shadowy world of global public relations.
That paragraph explains all you need to know about Alter; he talks of the two biggest stories in Washington. A little info, Johnny, what is big in D.C. is not necessarily big in Des Moines or south Jersey. Alot of people don't think that the Republicans are venal and a like amount of people don't think that the Iraq war is a "collossal failure" (but please keep telling the Dems that as it has led them to another abyss they'll jump from, it's almost too damn easy). Dems in D.C. think that it is, but right-thinking folks outside the beltway don't care what you inside D.C. think. We think that you are arrogant, solipsistic jerks who write for no one other than other D.C. reporters and fellow columnists.
We are for propaganda because that is the way of war. We think that if our government wasn't getting good news in the Iraqi papers by what ever means, they'd be failing. Hell, scrubs like you aren't reporting the truth in America, at least we can get our story across to those who really matter, those in Iraq.
We further think that the Democratic party has been doing the same things with outlets such as the NY Times and Time magazine for decades and you are a hypocritical bastard for bitching about something you do for a living. The DNC couldn't dream up the talking points you spew for them weekly.
I for one think that Alter is pissed because he isn't a big enough player to have been involved in the Plame affair and he's even more biased against the Bush administration for leaving him out of the loop. Don't worry Johnny, Matt Cooper may just buy you lunch with his book profits if you're a good boy.
