The ultimate "dove" Eugene McCarthy has passed.
He was the candidate who challenged Richard Nixon in 1968-at the height of the Vietnam War.
Because of his strong showing, he forced a sitting President to not run. LBJ's withdrawal drew Bobbie Kennedy into the race, which changed history.
Rest in peace, Sen. McCarthy.
