Doug Forrester is whining:
It's all George W. Bush's fault.
Doug Forrester, in his first postelection interview, laid the blame for his loss in the governor's race last week directly at the feet of President Bush. He said the public's growing disaffection with Bush, especially after Hurricane Katrina, made it impossible for his campaign to overcome the built-in advantage Democrats have in a blue state like New Jersey.
"If Bush's numbers were where they were a year ago, or even six months ago, I think we would have won on Tuesday," Forrester said. "Katrina was the tipping point."
Wrong. If Forrester had run as a conservative instead of a populist, he'd have most likely won. Give it a break, Doug. You lost to has-been Frank Laughtenberg and never-will-be Corzine. You are a horrible campaigner and never connected with the electorate.
That is why you lost, not Bush.
Update: The Bush poll numbers were high when Forrester lost the Senate race, so that argument is specious. Forrester had the "Torch" beaten, granted some shenanigans allowed Laughtenberg to be allowed to run. But regardless, Forrester lost an unloseable race in that campaign and, though he fought the good fight in the gubernatorial race, he could have won if he was a better political tactician.
