Harry Reid Speaks

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid:

"These are very serious charges," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada. "They suggest a senior White House aide put politics ahead of our national security and the rule of law. This case is bigger than the leak of highly classified information. It is about how the Bush administration manufactured and manipulated intelligence in order to bolster its case for the war in Iraq."

Uh, Senator, an indictment is not a conviction. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? If I recall, most white house personnel who were indicted were not convicted.

That beacon of truth and honestly--the honorable Edward Kennedy weighs in (no pun intended):

Sen. Edward M Kennedy, D-Mass., said the indictment marked a “signifying a new low since Watergate in terms of openness and honesty in our government.” Sen. John Kerry, who ran unsuccessfully against Bush last year, called the case “evidence of White House corruption at the very highest levels.”

To paraphrase James Taranto: Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for her thoughts on this story.
