The Sad Demise of Andrew Sullivan

Sphere: Related Content

As I've said before, Andrew Sullivan was among the best and brightest the blogosphere had to offer. He can write very well and at one time was among the most insightful writers anywhere. Alas, that time has passed. Andrew has become more of a punchline than anything else.

I can here the cacophony of voices screaming that I only say this because he is against Bush. That would be wrong. Andrew has become shrill and to be honest, he's just a bummer to read.

The left probably feels the same about Christopher Hitchens, but the difference is that Hitch has stood by his convictions and writings while the left has changed around him. Sullivan changed his writing and opinions, which by itself is not unusual or wrong. To change your convictions on one policy (the Iraq war) because you disagree with another (gay issues) is what is known in my neck of the woods as spineless.

Glenn Reynolds expounds on this a bit:

Sorry Andrew, but I'm not capable of precognition. On the other hand, I can read a clock. Jeez. I confess that I don't understand why Sullivan is so desirous of scoring cheap points at my expense these days, but this is pretty lame. As Jeff Goldstein put it in a different context: "Andrew Sullivan is completing his transformation into a Kos Diarist."
