Ronald Wilson Reagan, the greatest US leader in the second half of the 20th century, was named the greatest American in an AOL survey. Some on the left are not happy about it:
This is a belated outrage. It officially demonstrates that today's Americans don't have a clue what this country is about. Jefferson, Lincoln, King, and Franklin were beat by a guy who probably didn't realize he was President. A horrible actor, the guy was only nominated by his party because he spoke well and was charming.
It's kind of funny, Jefferson, Lincoln King and Franklin would all be considered Republicans today. Anyone but Reagan seems to be the rallying cry.
Ronald Reagan--regardless of how you attempt to spin it--was the most instrumental in defeating the Soviet Union. Maybe that's why you display the animosity. The USSR was a dictatorship that placed anyone who dared speak against the state into real gulags, not Gitmo.
Ronald Reagan gave this country back something it was sorely missing; pride. Pride that was lost during the dark Carter years.
