Tony Barlow (who?) has it completely wrong. He doesn't get why people join the military. In his mind, young unemployed men (and by the racial tone he didn't have the huevos to use two black guys to make his point) don't join the military just for a job. The ones who do never make it through boot camp.
They join because they have something in their hearts and souls that Tony's never thought of: love of country, a yet unrefined sense of patriotism that someone who has never served can't fathom and a feeling--deep in themselves--that they must help win a war against Islamofascists that may go on for decades.
Never mind, people like Tony Barlow (who?) will never understand until they've served. People like Tony make veterans like me sick.
