Destroying the Debate

Sphere: Related Content

Anyone who has read this blog regularly knows that I link to blogs of gay men and am indifferent to a persons sexual preference. I really couldn't care less if you are gay or not, it's just not that big of deal to me.

That said, why do certain homosexuals have to be so damn blatant about it? I was at a party yesterday and a guy--whom I had previously met and knew was gay--was going on and on about how he was happy his boyfriend was there. I sat down with the boyfriend and explained my politics to him and suggested he read this site among others. The other guy, upon finding out I was a Republican, kept asking the boyfriend for a kiss in front of everyone. The whole point was to show how in love they were after 7-years of being together and to try to shock this Republican.

I've seen things in my life that are shocking and two dudes kissing doesn't even register. I was having an intelligent conversation listening to the boyfriend discuss his views and the views of the gay community with regard to Bush, the War on Terror and gay marriage. It was enlightening. The other guy kept making blatant shows of affection to prove to me...well I don't know what, I was wrong maybe?. Even hard-core Democrats at the party were uncomfortable. There were numerous kids there, including my 9 and 6 year old children.

My point is this, I won't stick my tongue down my wife's throat in the company of a group of people if you won't do it to your boyfriend. It sounds fair, doesn't it? You do nothing for your cause by acting blatantly homosexual to prove a point. All that does is degrade the dialogue and irk people around you.

I've known gay people who I didn't even suspect of being gay even though others knew it immediately. I guess it's because it just doesn't matter to me that much. I'm more interested in the content of your character than how many times a guy can kiss his boyfriend trying to offend an evil Republican.

Wake up guys, the average American isn't shocked by homosexuality, but blatant displays tend to make you look unserious about the debate.
