Durbin Cries

Senator Dick Durbin cries and whines but still doesn't apologize:

WASHINGTON - Under fire from Republicans and some fellow Democrats, Sen. Dick Durbin apologized Tuesday for comparing American interrogators at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to Nazis and other historically infamous figures.

"Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line," the Illinois Democrat said. "To them I extend my heartfelt apologies."

His voice quaking and tears welling in his eyes, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate also apologized to any soldiers who felt insulted by his remarks.

"They're the best. I never, ever intended any disrespect for them," he said.

I echo James Taranto (third item) in likening this to the Trent Lott kerfuffle. This is a non-apology that is indigenous to Washington. I'm sure this won't go away as easy as Lott's troubles did as what this man said was an indictment of the American serviceman and woman putting it on the line every day.

The parallel with the Lott affair is not totally accurate as the Republicans had the huevos to smack down one of their own and remove Lott from his leadership position.

Unfortunately, the Donkey party of Howie Dean sees nothing wrong with comparing our warriors to Pol Pot, Nazis or the most repressive system ever, communism under the Soviets.
