I made predictions in April in which I picked the Phillies to win the NL East. I was pretty much looking stupid until the last few weeks.
The Phils are currently on a serious tear. They swept the Giants and are on the verge of sweeping the D'Backs.
Let's look at the batting averages:
Abreu (potential MVP): .333
Rollins: .269
Bell: .268
Burrell: .313
Polanco: .305
Lieberthal: .259
Utley: .308
I could go on and on. The only real disappointment is Jim Thome and you know he'll get his hits.
The team is hitting the snot out of the ball and the pitching is stepping up. I hope they work out a way to trade Bell and move Polanco to third, which will free up second for Utley to play every day.
The entire NL East is separated at this point by 1.5 games. No one is running away with this thing. Granted, we are only one third of the way into this, but the Phillies are playing exceptional ball right now.
Stay tuned.
