Banning Smoking

Over at POV, a good post on smoking bans in Italy and elsewhere. If you can smoke in a bar where you live, it's only a matter of time before you'll no longer be able to.

I think a well crafted law would allow the pub owner to decide if he wants to allow smoking and post a sign warning that smoking is allowed in his establishment. The laws of supply and demand will determine if he stays in business or not. If people wish to frequent his bar, even though smoking is allowed, they will. If they don't want to breathe in second-hand smoke, they can go elsewhere.
