New Jersey Politics

Tigerhawk, a fellow New Jerseyan, has a roundup of the current New Jersey political scene.
Governor Codey, whom replaced Jim McGreevey, will indeed have his hands full with Senator Corzine in next years gubernatorial election. On the GOP side you have Doug Forrester and Brent Schundler. Forrester may have a shot if he can campaign more effectively than he did againt Toricelli/Lautenberg. He has kept his name in the news by running ads against McGreevey for the last year. Schundler is another story. He is a strong Conservative and will be painted as a right-wing whacko by the Corzine campaign. Strong Conservatives do not win in a state like NJ. Case in point; the last two Republican governors were Christie Whitman and Tom Kean, not exactly Reaganites if you ask me.

Corzine is gearing up for a run at the Oval Office in '08 and knows full well that a Senator will not be elected to the nations highest office. There's too many votes that could be turned around on a sitting Senator.

I read in the comments of Tigerhawk's post that a long shot may come out of South Jersey. It ain't happening. I would love to see someone from south of Route 195 win but it is highly unlikely.
