Religion of Female Rights

Did you know that Islam is a huge supporter of women's rights? Me neither. A cleric says it's true so it must be:

Seniorcleric says Islam is biggest advocate of women`s human
rights Tehran, Aug 1, IRNA -- University professor and senior cleric Ayatollah Mohammad Mousavi Bojnourdi described Islam as the biggest advocate of women`s human rights ever. The ayatollah made the remark during an interview with IRNA in anticipation of "Women`s Day" on August 7, which marks the birth anniversary of the only daughter of Prophet Mohammad (S), Hazrat Fatimah (SA). Ayatollah Bojnourdi is a senior Islamic jurisprudent, distinguished university professor in theology and Islamic law and head of the Department of Law and Political Sciences in Tehran`s Teacher Training University. He is also the head of the Imam Khomeini Research Center which carries out studies on global Islam. Touching upon the elevated position of women in Islam, he referred to their status before the emergence of Islam and said it wasonly after the revelation of the Holy Quran to Prophet Mohammad (S) that women were given rights as human beings and gained an independentstatus equal to that enjoyed by men. Citing verses from the Holy Quran, the ayatollah, who is a religious scholar in women`s rights and also a cleric, renders fresh interpretations of Islamic laws regarding women. He teaches that Islam considers both men and women as having been created from the very same substance and, therefore, neither can be subject to discrimination or have an advantage over the other on gender grounds.

Wow, you learn something new everyday.
