There's been an avalanche of press about Bush and his destroying, singlehandedly, the environment. He gets slammed for not funding Superfund. This is just wrong, Superfund was not re-authorized in 1996, during Clinton's administration. You will hear environmental "advocates" claim that Superfund sites are not getting cleaned up. The truth of the matter is that you don't have as many sites being listed on the NPL (Superfund list) because the companies responsible for the sites are paying to clean them up themselves. In NJ alone we have three state Superfund sites; Ciba Chemical, Burnt Fly Bog, and Imperial Oil being cleaned up as we speak, as well as several federal sites.
