I just finished the book One Day in September by Simon Reeve. An excellent book about the Black September hostage taking at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.

Written in 2000, it is thorough in the events of that day and looks at the event from every angle. The author used hundreds of references, including files from the notorious East German Stasi, to bring an interesting perspective about the events.

It also details the major blunders of the Munich and Bavarian governments in the attempted rescue operation. The information released in the 1990's added the most damning evidence of German mismanagement and incompetence in the handling of the entire incident. The most unsettling part of the book was the detailing of the German coverup and the subsequent unraveling with the release of the numerous files.

The book also details the Mossad and Sayerat Matkal hunt for the terrorists behind the event, including the successes and the catastrophic failures, in bringing the "Wrath of God" to the Palestinians.

It's a great, quick read that can be found everywhere and I highly recommend it.
