Now they've gone and done it:
A C-5 Galaxy leaving Baghdad International Airport declared an in-flight emergency Jan. 8, at 6:20 a.m. Baghdad time, because of an explosion in the No. 4 engine.
The crew immediately returned the aircraft to the airport and landed safely. The 11 crewmembers and 52 military personnel on board were not injured.
The aircraft is assigned to 22nd Airlift Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. Initial reports indicate the incident is the result of hostile action from the ground, but the type of weapon and other details are unknown, officials said.
A team has been dispatched from Europe to investigate this incident.
Now it's personal. I just went through a ton of shit about a week ago to get this plane fixed and ready to fly, and now some jackass goes and blows shit up. It's bad enough that I have to deal with all sorts of obstacles (incompetance, lack of parts, low manning, managerial shenanigans) to keep these pieces of shit maintained without having some half-literate loser with a chip and a SAM on his shoulder adding to the misery.
I want this fucker found and so do about 20 other guys who not only went through hell to get this thing ready to go, but who now have to go over there and fix the damage.
But the pay and benefits of being in the military are so good.
