This is by far the stupidest thing I've yet seen concerning music and the political leanings of bands. First they say this of Rush:

Rush A Canadian band that is progressive in both their music and their politics. Their song "The Trees" is one of the simplest summations of class oppression ever written, "Second Nature" a call for leaders such as captains of industry to do the right thing, and "Red Tide," a song concerning the environment. Rush had been known for being a very libertarian band in the early 1970's...obviously they have matured as the years went on!

Here's some lyrics from Trees:

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

First, the guy whose web site I found the lyrics at (scroll down) has this song on a list of environmental songs. Uh, dude, this song is about anything but cutting down trees. It's about the maples having no power over the oaks with regard to sunshine. A forest class struggle. The maples form a union and instead of elevating themselves to the oaks level they bring the oaks down to theirs. Second, the Rush album 2112 was Niel Pearts take on the writings of Ayn Rand and it says so in the album. They are still libertarian. Even if you look at the song the Big Money, they don't take a side (except calling actors fools).

The rest of the list is equally inane. They list Metallica, who as we saw when Napster was kicking, are unabashed capitalists. Neil Young wrote Let's Roll about the passengers taking out the terrorist before the plane crashed 9-11 in PA.

No one has the answer
But one thing is true
You've gotta turn on evil
When it's coming after you
You gotta face it down
And when it tries to hide
You gotta go in after it
And never be denied

Time is running out...

Let's roll for freedom
Let's roll for love
Goin' after Satan
On the wings of a dove
Let's roll for justice
Let's roll for truth
Let's not let our children grow up
Fearful in their youth

My goodness. He equated the terroists with Satan and being evil, just like George W. Bush. How can he be on this list.

The rest is almost as easy as "Fisking" Mo Dowd.

The criteria to be on this list is the following; if a band has written a song about; legalizing drugs, being anti-Christian Coalition; anti-discrimination, pro-environment, or pro-abortion/womens rights, then they made the list. I guess by that criteria, anybody who is conservative is Anti-drug, fundamentalist christian, bigoted, and pro-life.

What a self-righteous a-hole the person who compiled this list is.
