There's nothing like an election year in Philly when that election is for mayor. John Street, the current mayor, who you may remember from this inane NAACP speech has found FBI placed bugs in his office. Whose fault do you think it is:

High-profile Democrats rallied for Mayor Street from the pulpit to the parade route yesterday, and urged the "Bush-Ashcroft" Justice Department to disclose why an FBI bug was discovered in Street's office at City Hall last week.

"Do not leave this man with a cloud over his head," thundered former U.S. Rep. William H. Gray 3d as he pointed at Street during a morning service at Bright Hope Baptist Church in North Philadelphia, where he is pastor.

So far, the FBI has declined to explain Street's role in its inquiry into alleged municipal corruption. The mayor has said he is not a target of the investigation. He has turned over three handheld e-mail devices to the FBI, and agents have confiscated documents from a financial firm run by one of Street's associates.

The Bright Hope visit was only one of Street's stops in a busy campaign day for both mayoral candidates, as they struggled to find their footing after an otherwise conventional race was turned upside down.

And the amazing thing is that it just may help Street's campaign. This is pretty telling:

Though only three police officers were part of the debugging team, Johnson said, he fielded his first call from a reporter about the bug 20 minutes after he left City Hall on Tuesday, having inspected the newly discovered bug.

Street released the info to the press and it may work as an us (blacks) against them (whites) rallying cry.
