Stephen Green has a take on the Rush issue:

It's not enough for Thomas to ridicule Rush for his oh-so-evident hypocrisy. Instead, he has to sneer at the entire concept of self-reliance. Now go back and re-read the first paragraph I quoted. Look at the examples of hypocrisy Thomas chose to highlight. Think about what he thinks they say about this country.

Thomas explicitly claims that we're all just like Limbaugh – or Bakker or Bennett. That's not a point worth debating; a nation of hypocritical moral reprobates simply isn't capable of maintaining simple human freedom, much less accomplishing all that we have done.

Then there's Thomas's implicit argument: All people who claim to be good aren't, and the proper response of the truly good is to "snicker." Oh, and all those bad people are on the right – and you can guess which side gets to snicker.

I'm hardly a right-winger, but Thomas's worldview and biases rattle even my jaded bones. Say about Limbaugh what you will. Pick on all the rabid right- (or left-) wingers you like.

But in the end, you'd better offer me something more substantial than a snicker.

The piece by Thomas was a hit piece. I surely believe that Thomas wouldn't want anyone looking into his past or present. I listen to Imus damn near every morning and he interviews this idiot on a regular basis. Thomas is a boring interview and is so high up in the writers ivory tower you could build a 30-foot deep pool and he would still break his legs on the bottom if he jumped.
