Oh yeah, one last thing. Whenever a racial incident occurs, such as the Rush/Donovan thing, it is yet another chance to have a national discussion about race. We always screw up that opportunity. It should be a chance to examine what separates us, and more importantly, what we have in common. Although there is a difference between Whites and Latinos, it never seems to manifest itself quite like the chasm between Whites and Blacks.
I don't agree with what Rush said about Donovan, I happen to think McNabb is a good quarterback. However, Rush was expounding on the NFL as a whole, and chose Donovan to make his point. Matt Millen was fined $200,000 for not interviewing an African-American for the Lions vacant coaching position, even though for blatant business reasons they had to select Mariucci.
This just underscores that which is the rule, do not interject race into...well, anything if you are white. This country needs a down and dirty discussion about race as a whole, and Black/White issues in particular.
Not Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton speaking for one side, and Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage on the other. How about you and me discussing it with each other. Maybe a breakthrough is yet possible. We are different, and we all know it. Look, I'm not looking for anything earth-shattering. Perhaps a little dialogue to see each others side. It's worth a shot.
By the way, the media loves nothing more than to take down Limbaugh. If the drug charges are legit, they may have their chance. The negativity of conventional media is something I've slammed repeatedly and it seems as though I'll have to continue.
PS: The Cubs have the lead on Atlanta in Game 3. Same old Braves.
