Jessica Lynch is to receive 80% pay for her service connected disabilities or disabilities incurred during military service. Shoshana Johnson is to receive 30% since she has recovered from most of her injuries. That is military policy:

Pvt. Jessica Lynch was "disappointed" to learn yesterday that she might get more disability pay than a friend who was wounded and captured in the same battle.
Spec. Shoshana Johnson, who was shot in both ankles and displayed on Iraqi TV during the war, will get 30% disability pay when she is discharged next week.

Lynch, who has signed a book deal and is negotiating movie rights, got 80% when she left the Army in August.

"I am so disappointed for Shoshana," Lynch said yesterday from her home in Palestine, W.Va. "I support her efforts 100%" to get more compensation from the Army, Lynch said in a statement. "And I wish her a continued healthy recovery."

Johnson's family complained that the difference in disability payments would mean that Johnson would get about $500 a month and Lynch about $1,200, according to Army pay tables.

Johnson, a 30-year-old single mother, is believed to be the first African-American female POW.

It doesn't matter if she's black, purple, or green. The military has to have a set policy. Even her family doesn't indicate racism, but Jesse does:

The Rev. Jesse Jackson is accusing the U.S. Army of discrimination in the way it has given disability payments to former prisoners of war Shoshana Johnson of El Paso and Jessica Lynch, one of the most recognizable soldiers out of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Johnson, who is black, is scheduled to leave the Army and expects to receive 30 percent disability benefits from the Army for injuries she received when she was shot in both ankles and held by Iraqi captors for 22 days.

Lynch, who is anglo, given 80 percent disability benefits for injuries she suffered after her Humvee utility vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade and crashed into another vehicle, Army officials said. Both Johnson and Lynch were members of Fort Bliss' 507th Maintenance Company, which was ambushed on March 23 in Nasiriyah.

The ambush killed 11 soldiers.

Jesse sees racism everywhere. What a tireless firghter he is for more face time on TV.
