Remember the days when Gray Davis was touted as a surefire presidential candidate? My how times have changed:

Recalling the economic boom that prevailed during his first term, the second-term Democrat said government and business leaders must "navigate these troubled waters the same way we made progress during our first four years. We will do it together."

Executives didn't applaud, though, and they skipped most other cues during Davis' remarks. Critical of a Legislature they see as bent on overregulating and overtaxing them to appease liberal constituencies, some business leaders say Davis turned his back on them during last year's re-election campaign to shore up his Democratic base.

I believe the only way they would've clapped was if he said he was resigning. What a friggin' shambles Davis has made my former state. How far could California's economy possible sink?
