The Allies are in Baghdad:
"American armored combat formations have moved through the heart of Baghdad, defeating the Iraqi troops we have encountered," said Navy Capt. Frank Thorp, a U.S. Central Command spokesman.
Thorp refused to specific about the troops' incursion, and witnesses reported seeing no U.S. forces around the Tigris River, which flows through the center of the city of 5 million. A reporter touring several sections of the city by car at midday saw no coalition soldiers.
The Iraqi military, in a statement read on satellite television Saturday, said U.S. forces were repulsed when they tried to advance on Baghdad from the south. "We were able to chop off their rotten heads," the statement said.
FOX was all over this last night with reports from two reporters, including Ollie North, that we were indeed within the city. The press briefing this morning seemed to indicate that that is true.
