California, with the exception of San Diego is a deeply Democratic state. They've elected Republicans for Governor such as Reagan and Pete Wilson, but that was because the Democrat candidate was so incredibly horrid that they held there noses and voted in the R column. I don't think any Democrat, still in office or not, has achieved this notoriety.
